The answer has to be code you can type out plausibly, not a talking point. And it happens inside an assessment platform that may be watching more closely than a video call does.
This ranks the five tools that handle that specific job, using what each vendor publishes.

The criteria
Can it read the problem off the screen? The single most important capability for a coding round, and not every tool has it.
Does it cover the assessment platforms? HackerRank, CoderPad and Codility behave differently from Zoom.
Can it handle a follow-up? Real interviewers modify the problem — "now do it in O(n)", "what if the input doesn't fit in memory". A tool that answers once and stops is half a tool.
Does it reach into where you actually write code? Editor integration is rare and, where it exists, significant.
What's the input surface? Assessment platforms are the environment most likely to watch keyboard input.
The ranking
1. Velin AI — widest coverage of what a coding round needs
Two modes, which is the reason it leads. Capture mode reads whatever is on screen — a LeetCode problem, an architecture diagram, a spec — and returns a formatted solution with code. Live mode follows the conversation without prompting, so when the interviewer modifies the problem mid-round, you're not re-triggering anything.
Answers in any programming language, and 57+ languages for the explanation, which matters if you're interviewing in a second language. Parallel AI jobs mean a second question can run while the first is still resolving. Sessions have no time cap, so a three-hour onsite doesn't end early.
For the round itself: mouse gesture control means you can drive it without keyboard input on a platform that may be logging keystrokes — the only tool here that offers that. And invisible notes let you keep your own patterns and templates on screen.

Where it loses: no editor plugin. If you want help inside VSCode rather than on top of it, LockedIn AI does that and Velin doesn't. No multi-monitor support advertised either.
2. LockedIn AI — the only one inside your editor
VSCode and Cursor integration is genuinely rare and it's the reason this places second. For a take-home or a live pair-programming round conducted in a real editor, help that lives where you type beats help that floats above it.
Coding support covers algorithms and system design. It names HireVue, which most rivals don't, and runs on Windows, macOS, iOS, Android and four browsers. 50+ languages with accent recognition, and a published 116ms average response time — the fastest stated figure of any tool here, faster than Velin's 120ms.
Where it loses: no published pricing at all — tier names only, so you learn the cost during signup. A Credits tier next to an Unlimited tier suggests metered usage, which is a poor fit for a long technical round. Invisibility is described by what the interviewer sees rather than by mechanism.
3. Interview Coder 2.0 — deepest platform coverage, highest price
Built for exactly this and it shows. Names HackerRank, CoderPad and Codility alongside Zoom, Teams, Meet and Webex, and covers system design, behavioural and AI/ML rounds as well as algorithmic ones. Real-time audio transcription, invisible in dock and Activity Monitor, click-through.
Claims 150,000+ candidates hired, and the marketing reach behind that is real.
Where it loses: $299/month or $799 lifetime, roughly nine times Velin's monthly price for a narrower feature set. Keyboard-only control, which is the input surface you'd most want to avoid on an assessment platform. And no stated multi-language support.
4. Interview Solver — most focused, and the only one with multi-monitor
Does one job: LeetCode-style problems and system design. Screengrabs read the problem from a window, voice transcription covers both sides, and there's syntax highlighting and flowcharts for working through a solution. Multi-monitor support is called out explicitly, which no other tool here advertises — if you interview across two screens, that's a concrete reason to look.

Where it loses: invisibility is stated as working against Zoom 6.16 and below, a boundary with an expiry date. No annual or lifetime option, so a year costs $468. And strictly coding — nothing for the behavioural half of the loop.
5. Parakeet AI — the one that works where you can't install anything
Screen capture for LeetCode-style questions, resume and document context, auto-detection of questions, and named platform support for HackerRank, LeetCode, CoderPad and the usual video tools. Multiple frontier models — GPT-5, GPT-4.1, Claude 4.0 Sonnet.
Its real advantage is delivery: browser-first and mobile-optimised. On a locked-down machine where you cannot install a desktop app, this is the only option on this list that works at all.
Where it loses: a browser tab is the most inspected surface on the computer during a proctored assessment — it appears in your window list and can be enumerated by an extension. Usage is metered in credits, with 10-minute sessions on the free tier. And prices don't render on their pricing page, so you can't compare cost without signing up.
